Abbas travels to Doha to negotiate a technocratic government in the PA with Hamas leaders

The Palestinian Authority’s head, Mahmoud Abbas (Abu Mazen), landed in Doha on February 11 with the hope of meeting with Hamas Politburo members. The Qatari government is currently serving as a mediator between Hamas and Israel, and Abbas is seeking the government’s assistance in organizing a meeting with the leaders of Hamas political leadership.

Abbas has expressed his intention to invite these leaders to establish a government of technocrats within the Palestinian Authority. This new body will be responsible for overseeing the restoration of the Gaza Strip, which has been severely impacted by years of conflict and neglect.

The body created by the PA government will be under international control, which will allow for funds to be transferred for the reconstruction of the sector. This move is seen as a positive step towards bringing peace and stability to the region.
