Annual YWCA equity event in Spokane highlights maternal health disparities in communities of color

The YWCA Spokane’s annual Equity for All event will be focusing on the maternal health of communities of color in Spokane this year. The event will feature performances from local artists and a panel of maternal health experts from the community.

YWCA Spokane CEO Jeanette Hauck stated that Equity For All is a platform for passionate community members to come together to advance equity and social justice. Through collaboration, learning, and sharing ideas, the goal is to build a more inclusive and equitable community for everyone.

Amara Boyd, a high school junior from Spokane, will host the event, while award-winning diversity educator Shari Clarke will moderate. The panelists for the event include Prosparetti Coleman, Monica Guzman, Symetria Gongyin, and Melodi Wynne, all of whom are committed to improving health outcomes for women and girls of color through their work in various community initiatives.

In addition to the panel discussion, the event will also feature performances by local artists including Alondra & Anna, Alethea Sharea Dumas, Sara Palmer-Janier, and Venessa Pete.
