Baylor Women’s Team Defeat Texas Tech with 71-60 Victory

In the Big 12 Conference Tournament, No. 17 Baylor defeated Texas Tech 71-60 for its sixth consecutive win. Sarah Andrews contributed 13 points, while Aijha Blackwell had 11 points and nine rebounds in the victory. Baylor’s defense was strong in the fourth quarter, holding Texas Tech to only 10 points on two made field goals and six free throws.

The Bears forced turnovers and limited Texas Tech’s field-goal attempts, propelling them to victory. Baylor, the No. 5 seed, will face off against No. 4 seed Iowa State in the quarterfinals. Despite dropping their lone regular-season meeting against Iowa State, the Bears are ready for the rematch.

Bella Fontleroy and Yaya Felder added 10 points each for Baylor, with Dre’Una Edwards contributing five points off the bench. Texas Tech was led by Jasmine Shavers with 20 points and Bailey Maupin with 15 points. Despite a win over Houston in the tournament opener, Texas Tech had lost nine consecutive games before facing Baylor.

The Lady Raiders have struggled against Baylor, losing 30 consecutive games against them since their last win in 2011. Baylor’s strong performance in the tournament sets them up for a challenging match against Iowa State in the quarterfinals.
