Jeff Bezos reclaims title as world’s wealthiest person – A comparison to Elon Musk and Bernard Arnault

From the New York Stock Exchange, J.D. Durkin brings you the latest business news as markets closed on Tuesday, March 5th. The Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped over 400 points, while the Nasdaq Composite lost just under 1.5 percent and the S&P 500 fell by 1 percent. Apple’s iPhone sales in China took a hit with a 24% decline reported at the start of the year.

Investors are now eagerly awaiting Fed Chair Jerome Powell’s testimony on Capitol Hill on Wednesday and key labor market data with the release of the February jobs report on Friday. Meanwhile, Jeff Bezos has once again claimed the title of world’s richest person with a net worth of $200 billion after surpassing Elon Musk by $2 billion. This increase in wealth has allowed Bezos to take back his position from Musk and LVMH boss Bernard Arnault who had been competing for it recently. The top five wealthiest people in the world are worth a combined $924 billion, equivalent to the world’s 19th highest GDP. However, it is worth noting that only two women currently hold spots on Bloomberg’s Billionaires list: L’Oreal’s Francoise Bettencourt Meyer being the wealthiest woman alive at number 15 with a net worth of just over $97 billion.
