Jeff Bezos offloads two billion dollars of Amazon shares

Jeff Bezos, the founder of Amazon, recently sold about $2 billion worth of shares in the online retail giant, equivalent to around 1.8 billion euros. This is his first stock sale since 2021 and he still owns more than 9% of the company. On Friday, a stock exchange document was sent out stating that Bezos sold 12 million Amazon shares on Wednesday and Thursday at prices ranging from $168 to $171 each.

Despite the recent stock sale, Bezos’ fortune is estimated at 195.5 billion dollars, making him the third richest person in the world. In January 2025, it was reported that Bezos had an intention to sell 50 million shares of Amazon with a market value of 8.4 billion dollars before then. However, it is not clear if this plan has been altered or if it is still in motion.

On February 1, Amazon released its financial results for the year and they far exceeded expectations. The group achieved a turnover of 170 billion dollars, representing growth of 14% over one year, and a net profit of 10.6 billion dollars. These results led to a more than 13% increase in the company’s stock on the New York Stock Exchange.

Amazon’s financial success can be attributed to its diverse range of products and services including e-commerce platform, cloud computing services such as Amazon Web Services (AWS) and digital streaming service like Prime Video among others
