Jeff Bezos reclaims title of richest man from Elon Musk

According to Bloomberg’s daily update, Jeff Bezos has once again become the richest man in the world, surpassing Elon Musk, the owner of X, Tesla, and SpaceX. Musk’s net worth has fallen to $198 billion from $232 billion at the end of 2023 due to a decline in Tesla’s shares and a Delaware court decision to cancel a compensation plan.

Bezos, who stepped down as Amazon’s CEO in July 2021, has seen his wealth rise to $200 billion thanks to the company’s strong performance. Bernard Arnault, the president of LVMH, is currently in third place on the list with a net worth of $197 billion. Mark Zuckerberg and Bill Gates follow closely behind as the fourth and fifth richest men in the world.

The first Spaniard on the list is Amancio Ortega, the founder of Inditex, who ranks 16th with a fortune nearing $89 billion. The richest woman on the planet is Françoise Bettencourt Meyers, the L’Oreal heiress, with $97.1 billion.

Bezos and Musk have been rivals for years and their rivalry extends beyond their positions in this ranking. They are both key players in the space race through their companies Blue Origin and SpaceX respectively. Despite ending 2023 as the richest man in the world, Musk has now been surpassed by Bezos once again. Marcos Galperín is only Argentinean on this list and he ranks 365th with a net worth of $7.15 billion.
