Next week, mobile science lab for kids visits Fort Kent

Educate Maine is launching a new mobile learning lab called BIOLAB to get kids excited about careers in science, engineering, math, and technology. The lab will be visiting schools across the state, starting with Fort Kent and then traveling to 12 schools in rural Maine. The goal is to provide students with hands-on experience and cutting-edge technology that they may not typically have access to in a regular school day.

Jason Judd, executive director of Educate Maine, expressed his excitement about the opportunity for students throughout Maine to be exposed to the BIOLAB and explore careers in the life sciences. The focus is on introducing students to a wide range of job opportunities in the field beyond the traditional roles of doctor or nurse. With the high demand for workers in the life sciences industry, students have the potential to secure high-paying jobs with stability and growth opportunities.

The lab features information about the life sciences industry in Maine, highlighting the 9,000 jobs available at 450 companies with an average salary of $100,000. Judd emphasized that many of these roles involve lab work, making them ideal for students who enjoy hands-on experimentation and research. Funding for the BIOLAB was made possible through federal support secured by Senators Susan Collins and Angus King, as well as state funding provided by Maine Senate President Troy Jackson. Jackson emphasized
