Blue Flame Restaurant shutters its doors after 68 years of operation

The Blue Flame Restaurant in Jefferson Hills, PA closed its doors on Sunday after serving the community for 68 years. The restaurant was a staple in the area and held many memories for both customers and staff. Jessica George Elder, who had been going to the restaurant since she was a baby and worked there for 17 years, described it as home.

Jennifer George, the wife of one of the owners, mentioned that the decision to close was a difficult one, but the challenges of operating a business post-COVID had taken a toll. Some of the difficulties included staffing and hiring issues. Despite the sadness of the closure, Elder stated that it was a bittersweet moment for her and the rest of the staff.

The restaurant had become a gathering place for many regular customers who had formed friendships with the staff over the years. For long-time patrons like Paula Schwartz, who had been visiting the restaurant since she was five years old, the closure brought a sense of loss. The restaurant was known for its family-friendly atmosphere and Sunday pancake tradition.

As the Blue Flame Restaurant closes its doors, the staff and customers will take some time to reflect on the memories and experiences shared at the establishment. While the future is uncertain, Elder expressed optimism about opening a new chapter in their lives. The space won’t remain empty, as the owners have sold it to someone expected to open another restaurant in the location.
