Borussia Dortmund secures spot in 2025 FIFA Club World Cup

Borussia Dortmund has been confirmed to join Bayern Munich at the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, according to world football’s governing body. The decision came after RB Leipzig was defeated by Real Madrid in the 2023/24 UEFA Champions League round of 16 on 6 March 2024.

As Bundesliga runners-up last season, BVB previously won the Champions League in 1996/97 and went on to claim the Intercontinental Cup, which is recognized by FIFA as the Club World Cup’s direct predecessor.

The list of already qualified clubs includes Bayern, Real Madrid, Manchester City, Chelsea, Inter Milan, Paris Saint-Germain, Benfica, and Porto from UEFA; Palmeiras, Flamengo, and Fluminense from CONMEBOL; Auckland City from OFC; Al Ahly and Wydad Casablanca from CAF; Al-Hilal and Urawa Red Diamonds from AFC; and Monterrey, Seattle Sounders, and Léon from CONCACAF.

Dortmund will be one of 12 European clubs participating in the 32-team tournament, which is set to be held in various U.S. cities between 15 June and 13 July 2025. Teams from each of FIFA’s six confederations will compete for the title of world champions.
