Strengthening Gender Equality in Science: A Challenge

During a conference titled “Women who inspire, achievements and challenges” held at the Cultural Center of Spain in Mexico, three brilliant scientists encouraged the defeat of the belief that some races and careers are not meant for women. The talk coincided with the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, which is commemorated on February 11th, promoted by UNESCO and UN-Women.

The panelists included Érika Bustos, Isabel Gómez, and Citlali Trueba, all accomplished Mexican scientists who shared their experiences and encouraged gender equality in the technological field through education.

Isabel Gómez spoke about her love for laboratory work and encouraged others to follow their passion for knowledge. She shared her personal challenges and how she overcame the beliefs of others to pursue her ambitions for the benefit of society. Meanwhile, Isabel Trueba revealed her love for biology and her interest in understanding the inner workings of living beings, particularly neurons.

Érika Bustos spoke about her work in environmental electrochemistry and how it can be used to recognize contaminants in the environment with the goal of preventing pollution of aquifers. Claudette Romero, an engineer who served as moderator, emphasized the importance of promoting gender equality in the technological field and eradicating false beliefs about women in science and technology. Each panelist described how they overcame challenges and pursued their passions with hope to inspire others to do the same.

The conference attracted girls of all ages who attended with interest in what was said by experts. The audience was inspired by their stories of perseverance against adversity while chasing their dreams.

The conference brought together brilliant minds from different fields to share their experiences on gender equality issues within science technology fields. The speakers highlighted that women should have equal opportunities regardless of race or backgrounds they come from.

Overall, this conference was a reminder that everyone has a right to pursue their passions without being hindered by stereotypes or misconceptions that limit them based on their gender or race. It showed us that when we support each other’s journey towards equality, we can achieve great things together!
