Canton Boys’ Basketball seeks spot in State Final 4 during ECAC semifinal hockey match

Friday night’s action in Watertown, New York featured the spotlight on Men’s and Women’s ECAC Hockey, as well as a preview of Canton Boys Basketball.

In the Women’s ECAC Hockey Semifinals, 2nd seed Clarkson faced off against 3rd seed St. Lawrence in Hamilton. Clarkson took the lead in the 1st period with a goal from Haley Winn, making it 1-0. In the 2nd period, Sena Catterall extended Clarkson’s lead to 2-0 before St. Lawrence answered with a goal from Rachel Bjorgan, bringing the score to 2-1. Late in the 3rd period, Catterall scored an empty netter to secure a 3-1 victory for Clarkson, advancing them to the ECAC Championship game against top-seed Colgate.

In the Men’s ECAC Playoffs, St. Lawrence hosted Yale in the opening round. St. Lawrence took the lead in the 1st period with a goal from Tomas Mazura, eventually winning 4-2 and advancing to the ECAC Quarterfinals.

On the basketball court, the Canton Golden Bears will face Stillwater in the State Class B Quarterfinals at SUNY Potsdam. Canton, ranked 4th in the state, will be aiming to avenge their earlier loss to Stillwater and secure a spot in the State Final 4. Coach Troy Lassial emphasized the importance of defense and shooting in preparation for the game, while player Talan Green highlighted the team’s dedication to hard work and practice.
