The gender disparity in the field of science persists, with only one in three researchers being women globally. This ongoing issue is due to the numerous barriers that female scientists continue to face, which can discourage girls from pursuing scientific careers and hinder the progress of women in the field. However, despite these challenges, progress has been made, and it’s time to celebrate that.
To address these barriers and build on the key findings and recommendations from the UNESCO Global Forum “The Future for Women and Girls in Science” and the AFNEUS “Women in Science” Congress, an event will be held in celebration of the 2024 International Day of Women and Girls in Science. This event will unveil the UNESCO Call for Action “Closing the gender gap in science” and provide valuable insights on initiatives, resources, and best practices to put this call into practice. It’s a chance for everyone involved to come together and work towards a more inclusive future for science.
