China Breaks World Record in Men’s 4x100m Freestyle Relay at 2024 World Aquatic Championships

Pan Zhanle from China sets new world record with a time of 46.80 in 4×100 freestyle relay lead off.

The 2024 World Aquatic Championships kicked off with the Day 1 Finals Heat Sheet of events. The start lists for the Women’s 4×100 Free Relay and Men’s 4×100 Free Relay were announced.

In the Men’s 4×100-meter Freestyle Relay Final, China took home the gold medal with a time of 3:11.08, followed by Italy at 3:12.08 and the USA at 3:12.29. Pan Zhanle of China made history by breaking the world record for the men’s 100 freestyle while leading off the men’s 4×100 freestyle relay. His new record-breaking time of 46.80 surpassed the previous record set by David Popovici in 2022, earning him a $30,000 USD bonus for setting the World Record. Zhanle’s impressive swim was a marked improvement from his performance in the morning, where he had a much slower split on the anchor leg. His strong showing in the final round demonstrates his exceptional skill and determination in sprint swimming.
