The background of Israel’s release of two hostages in a raid on Rafah that lasted an hour and a half

In the south of Gaza Strip, Israeli forces carried out a daring operation to rescue two hostages. The mission involved intelligence services, elite units and air forces, and took just over an hour and a half to complete.

The raid was coordinated by a war room at the Shin Bet’s internal intelligence services. At 01:49, Israeli forces launched the operation with explosives on the apartment where the hostages were being held. The three captors were killed instantly, and the special forces shielded the hostages with their bodies.

Following the raid, Hamas men opened fire from nearby buildings while the Israeli air force bombed Hamas military sites and command centers. The escape was covered by Shayetet 13 of the navy and 7th Armored Brigade. After being rescued, Marman and Har were taken out of Rafah in armored vehicles before being flown to Israel in a helicopter. Both men were found in good condition after undergoing medical tests and were able to embrace their families once again. Only one member of the rescue team was slightly injured in the operation.

The two hostages, both Israelis with dual Argentine nationality, had been kidnapped during a violent Hamas attack on Kibbutz Nir Yiyzhak on October 7th along with their companion Clara Marman (62), sister of Fernando Marman (61), Gabriela (58) who is also sister of Fernando Marman (61) and her 17-year-old daughter Mia Leimberg (17).
