Delta Air Lines Pilot Admits to Showing up Intoxicated for a Flight and Pleads Guilty

Delta Air Lines captain Lawrence Russell has pleaded guilty to showing up for duty while under the influence of alcohol. Airport security officers discovered two bottles of Jägermeister in his luggage, one of which was half-empty, and found his blood alcohol level to be more than double the legal limit. He was arrested after failing a breathalyzer test and is now facing legal consequences for his actions.

Russell’s case is not unique in the aviation industry. Last July, a United Airlines pilot was given a six-month suspended sentence for attempting to fly from Paris to Washington DC while over six times the legal alcohol limit. In both cases, the airlines have emphasized their strict alcohol policy and zero tolerance for violations.

Delta Air Lines has made it clear that they do not comment on ongoing legal cases but are committed to maintaining strict alcohol policies in the industry. As Russell awaits sentencing, it is clear that the aviation industry takes matters of safety and responsible behavior amongst its pilots very seriously.
