The influx of visitors had a significant economic impact on the city, contributing nearly $600,000 in direct spending. This spending supported a variety of businesses, including shops, restaurants, transportation providers, tour operators, and small businesses in Duluth and other Great Lakes ports.
The growth in Great Lakes cruises as a destination was highlighted by Anna Tanski, Tourism Director of Cruise the Great Lakes. She expressed her organization’s commitment to promoting the unique cruising experiences available in the region. Tanski noted that many of the passengers who visited Great Lakes ports in 2023 were first-time visitors and have discovered the appeal of this destination.
