Expansion of science facilities at EIU’s campus planned

Eastern Illinois University is set to open a new science building that will cater specifically to its chemistry and biology programs. The new facility, which is the first new construction on EIU’s campus in over a decade, aims to provide students with more space and modern lab rooms to enhance their learning experience.

According to Matt Bierman, Vice President for Business Affairs at EIU, the chemistry facility urgently needs updating as the current labs are outdated. While the biology facility underwent renovation in recent years, the new building will provide state-of-the-art amenities for both programs. The university received $118 million from the state for this project, with $97 million designated for construction and the remainder for designing the facility.

The completion date for the science building is set for 2028, and EIU is excited about the increased opportunities it will offer to students in the chemistry and biology departments. This expansion reflects the university’s commitment to providing a high-quality education to its community. Stay updated on the latest news, weather, sports, and streaming videos at WCIA.com.
