OpenAI dismisses Musk’s grievance: “Disappointed in the unexpected turn with a formerly respected individual”

In 2015, Elon Musk founded OpenAI with the mission of developing artificial intelligence for the benefit of humanity without profit. However, according to a blog post by the founders Sam Altman and Greg Brockman, Musk has deviated from this mission by not releasing the source code of its latest version, GPT4. The founders rejected Musk’s complaint that he filed last week in an attempt to gain full control over the company.

Emails between Musk and the founders show that Musk did support the idea of OpenAI becoming a profitable company, as he believed that only a billion-dollar company could achieve the same level of relevance as Google or Facebook. Despite this, Musk has accused Altman and Brockman of abandoning the original mission of OpenAI and creating a competitor. In response, Altman and Brockman expressed their disappointment in the situation, stating that Musk had inspired them to aim higher only to later sue them.

OpenAI intends to ask the judge to dismiss Musk’s complaint. Meanwhile, Musk has founded his own artificial intelligence company called xAI. The dispute highlights the complex nature of partnerships and shared visions in the tech industry, especially when it comes to developing cutting-edge technology like artificial intelligence.
