Embrace your wild side this April at the Natural Science Museum in Lawrence County

In April, MDWFP’s Mississippi Museum of Natural Science is offering a variety of exciting events for visitors to enjoy. Museum Director Charles Knight is excited to provide these opportunities for the local community to appreciate the wonders of the natural world and to connect with each other. Those interested can find pricing and registration details for all events at https://mdwfp.com/museum.

One of the events taking place in April is the Solar Eclipse Event on Monday, April 8 from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Advance tickets are required for this event, with a $10 fee that includes eclipse glasses. Participants can join NASA Astro Camp Specialists and museum educators for hands-on activities and witness the 90% eclipse of the sun. Food trucks will be available on site for an additional cost.

Naturefest will be held on Saturday, April 13 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. This event includes encounters with live animals from the Hattiesburg Zoo and Freedom Ranch Outreach Education, meeting the Crayfish Man, exploring the museum’s research labs, enjoying the giant foam party, purchasing plants from Camp Creek Native Plants, checking out the “Attack of the Bloodsuckers!” exhibit, and navigating the Spotter’s Adventure Trail to the LeFleur’s Bluff Playground. Food trucks will also be at the event for additional cost, and it is included with MMNS Foundation Membership or Museum admission.

On Friday, April 19 from 7:30 to 10 p.m., the Moonlight, Music, and Meteors event will take place. This event offers a night under the stars with the Mississippi Symphony Orchestra and area physicists, astronomers, and NASA solar system ambassadors during the Lyrid meteor shower at “The Den” in LeFleur’s Bluff State Park. Advance tickets for this event are $15 until April 18 at noon, and $20 at the door.

The museum, located at 2148 Riverside Drive in Jackson within LeFleur’s Bluff State Park, has admission prices of $8 for adults, $6 for youth ages 3-18, and $7 for senior citizens ages 60 and up.
