In Lexington, a senior health fair was held at a living center, organized by Bonita Taylor with the United Vendors of America. The fair provided local seniors and residents of assisted living homes with an opportunity to learn about health care insurance and other products and services relevant to their age group. Among the vendors present at the event were those selling skin care products and jewelry.
The inspiration for this event came from Taylor’s experience attending a senior health fair in Frankfort, Kentucky about 15-20 years ago. After attending that fair, she felt it would be beneficial to bring a similar event to Lexington and invite the local community to participate. Aetna Medicare Solutions had a booth at the fair to talk with attendees and educate them about health insurance. Patrick Lee, a representative with Aetna Medicare Solutions, emphasized the importance of face-to-face interaction in educating seniors about intangible products like insurance.
One of the goals behind the fair was to provide seniors with information about alternative and additional benefits to accompany their Medicare. Taylor emphasized that many seniors are not aware of these extra benefits, so providing this information to them was a priority for her. In addition to informational booths, vendors were also selling skin care products and jewelry, making it an opportunity for attendees to find meaningful gifts for loved ones.
Due to the success of this event, Taylor plans to organize another senior health fair in the near future.
