Empowering Veterans’ Mental Health Care: VA Finger Lakes Healthcare System Launches Advanced Practice Registered Nurse Residency Program

VA Finger Lakes Health Care Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Residency

The VA Finger Lakes Healthcare System’s Mental Health APRN Residency aims to enhance the clinical experience of mental health nurse practitioners in managing mental health conditions affecting the Veteran population. The program focuses on providing diagnostic, psychiatric medication management, and psychotherapy skills, as well as developing strong interprofessional collaboration and Veteran-centric care expertise.

The mission of the program is to prepare mental health Advanced Practice Registered Nurses (APRN’s) to deliver high-quality care for Veterans, including those in rural and underserved patient populations. This residency program offers an excellent opportunity for nurses who want to specialize in mental health care for Veterans and gain valuable clinical experience in managing complex mental health conditions.
