Outcast: A New Beginning is the sequel to the original Outcast, which was one of the first open-world games ever made. In this new installment, players can explore an entire alien world without any restrictions. The game takes cues from other open-world games that have been released in the two decades since the original, allowing for a new level of freedom and non-linear progression.

The game’s director was influenced by The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, which allowed players to go anywhere at any point and do anything. The alien planet in Outcast: A New Beginning is vast, spanning about 64 square kilometers. It includes seven large Talen villages, different biomes with varying vegetation, and plenty of animals and open-world activities. These villages act as waypoints, guiding players in different directions, and they can choose to help the native populations in any order they wish.

After a tutorial sequence, players are free to explore every inch of the world, with the exception of a few bases, without any segmentation or restrictions. There are no borders or invisible walls that prohibit players based on their level. The game’s producer, Andreas Schmiedecker, has described the world as bright and colorful, setting it apart from other games with typically darker landscapes.

Outcast: A New Beginning is currently available on Steam and consoles, offering players a chance to experience a new level of freedom in an open-world setting. For those looking for similar games to explore, there are plenty of other open-world games available to dive into.
