Science Saturday on March 9 Shines a Light on LBT Field Station and NJ Bay Islands Initiative

Long Beach Island Foundation of the Arts and Sciences is hosting a Science Saturday event on March 9, where Angela Andersen, the Sustainability Director of Long Beach Township, will be the featured speaker. The event will take place at 11 a.m. on Zoom, where Andersen will discuss the LBT Marine Education Field Station in Holgate and the public programs planned for the summer.

During her presentation, Andersen will provide information about the N.J. Bay Island Initiative, a group focused on inventorying, researching and restoring marsh islands in the bay to promote coastal and community resilience. She will also highlight grant-funded projects that the township and its partners have secured to further research on bay islands. Additionally, she will share details about various science projects currently underway at the field station.

Science Saturday sessions are hosted by Rick Bushnell of ReClam the Bay and Darlene Cavalier, founder of SciStarter. These sessions explore scientific studies, environmental issues and topics relevant to shore communities and Barnegat Bay. The 2024 Science Saturdays are free with both in-person and virtual options available for registration through lbifoundation.org/science or emails sent out by LBIF to subscribers.

For more information about upcoming Science Saturday events and other programs at the Foundation interested individuals can contact 609-494-1241, visit lbifoundation.org or follow LBIF on social media
