Extraordinary Achievement: SPHS Science Olympiad Teams Earn State Championship Spot for Second Year in a Row

South Pasadena High School Science Olympiad Teams Selected to Compete in State Competition.

In a remarkable feat, the SPHS Science Olympiad teams outperformed 61 other schools at the Los Angeles-Rio Hondo College Regional Science Olympiad Tournament on Saturday, March 2, 2024. The 29 SPHS students competing in two teams showcased their exceptional skills and knowledge in 23 different events.

Their efforts paid off as they secured fifth and ninth place, earning them the right to advance to the State Competition on April 6, 2024, at Caltech for the second consecutive year. The Science Olympiad students have dedicated their time after school and on weekends throughout the year to prepare and practice for these events.

Congratulations are in order for the following outstanding students and their advisor, Science teacher Ben Ku.
