CNGR Finland, a joint venture established in May 2022, has been granted an environmental permit and permission to start operations at its battery material factory in Hamina by the regional administrative agency of Southern Finland, Avi. This is a significant milestone for the company as it marks the formation of a key competence center for the battery industry in the region.
The factory will produce approximately 60,000 tons of battery chemicals per year and will also produce energy for its own needs. Avi has stated that the factory meets the requirements of the Environmental Protection Act, the Waste Act, and the Nature Conservation Act. The production of cathode-active material will be carried out at a factory located in Kotka, with plans for a battery cluster to be built in the Kotka-Hamina region to implement battery production covering the entire value chain. In addition to this, CNGR also plans to establish a raw material pretreatment and recycling plant in connection with the battery material factory.
The appeal period for Avi’s decision ends on March 20, 2024. With this decision, CNGR Finland is one step closer to establishing itself as a leader in the battery industry and contributing to sustainable energy solutions.
