Milwaukee Health Department Offers Free Drive-Thru Vaccination Clinic In Response to Mumps Case in Resident

On Saturday, Feb. 10, the Milwaukee Health Department held a free drive-thru mpox vaccination clinic. This came after a Milwaukee resident tested positive for the disease on Friday, Feb. 2, marking the first identified case of mpox since June of 2023. The symptoms of mpox include flu-like symptoms and a painful rash or sore. The disease can be contracted through close, personal contact with symptomatic people and can be spread by anyone. Fortunately, the recovery time for mpox is usually two to four weeks.

If an individual has been exposed to the disease, the Milwaukee Health Department advises them to contact their local healthcare provider or call their local health department. It’s important to take this step as soon as possible to prevent further spread of the disease and protect oneself and others in the community.
