Chancellor Olaf Scholz denounces Tucker Carlson’s interview with Putin as ‘ridiculous’ and ‘absurd’

The German Chancellor, Olaf Scholz, has strongly condemned the recent interview given by Russian President Vladimir Putin to American journalist Tucker Carlson. In his X account, Scholz described Putin’s comments as a “mockery” and a “completely absurd explanation” of the situation in Ukraine. He reaffirmed Germany’s support for Ukraine and met with President Joe Biden to request additional funds for the country. During their meeting, Scholz accused Putin of “telling a lot of lies” and criticized Russia’s behavior in Ukraine.

In the interview, Putin warned that a defeat for his country in Ukraine is impossible. He also considered that Russia has not yet achieved its objectives in Ukraine, because one of them is its “denazification.” However, Scholz believes that Russia’s actions are imperialistic and aims to keep part of its neighbors’ territory.

Scholz also mentioned that the 27 countries of the European Union recently agreed on a €50 billion package for Ukraine until 2027, after Hungary lifted its veto. Germany is the second largest contributor in absolute terms after the United States, with more than 7 billion euros this year, and is urging its European partners to increase their aid.

Overall, Scholz has made it clear that Germany remains firmly on Ukraine’s side and will continue to support the country led by Volodymyr Zelensky.
