DOH-Marion to Offer ‘Staying Healthy as You Age’ Class

The Florida Department of Health in Marion County (DOH-Marion) is excited to invite seniors aged 55 and over to attend the “Staying Healthy as You Age” class on Thursday, February 22, 2024. This event will take place from 11 a.m. to noon at the Marion Oaks Community Center, located at 280 Marion Oaks Lane in Ocala, FL 34473.

In February, we celebrate American Heart Month, a time to raise awareness about heart disease and promote prevention and treatment in our communities. DOH-Marion encourages all Floridians to adopt a lifestyle that promotes heart health and well-being, including maintaining healthy cholesterol levels, adding physical activity into their weekly schedule, and eating nutritious foods that support a healthy cardiovascular system. Heart disease is the leading cause of death nationally as well as in Florida.

DOH-Marion has partnered with Marion County Senior Services to offer this class for seniors aged 55 and over. The class aims to help participants discover ways to promote healthy aging, including maintaining a positive attitude, following a nutritious diet, engaging in regular physical activity, getting regular medical check-ups, stimulating the brain with mental exercises, and leading an active social life.

There is no need to register in advance for the class. For more information or to reserve your spot, interested individuals can contact Melissa Marino at 352-644-2624.

The Florida Department of Health is dedicated to protecting the health and wellbeing of all Floridians through integrated state, county and community efforts.
