High School Junior to Compete in State Science Fair

Elliot Stead’s project titled “Developing an Environmental Sensor, Designing, and Building a Sounding Rocket to Contain It” won first prize at a regional science fair. He will now be heading to the state fair to compete, representing Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School.

At the Massachusetts Region V Science and Engineering Fair, held at Bridgewater State University on March 2, MVRHS juniors Elliot Stead and Jacksun Engler showcased their projects. Region V is known to be the largest educational region in the commonwealth, comprising schools from 75 cities and towns, including cities like Brockton, Newton, Quincy, and Weymouth, as well as towns like Weston, Provincetown, Natick, Plymouth, and Easton.

Stead’s project, focused on developing an environmental sensor and constructing a sounding rocket to house it, impressed the judges and won him first place at the fair. This victory has earned him a spot at the Massachusetts State Science and Engineering Fair, which will take place at Gillette Stadium in April.
