High schools welcome esports: Cube.SEL league kicks off with 32 schools competing in Valorant

The Telemach Cube School Esport League recently kicked off its first phase of the tournament, designed for high school students. The initiative, started by students of High School Zvane Črnje Rovinj two years ago, has now evolved into a national esports competition involving 32 secondary schools across Croatia. The ultimate goal of the league is to promote responsible gaming and introduce esports as an extracurricular activity in high schools.

In today’s modern age, technology is an integral part of daily life for children and young people. Recognizing the challenges it poses, the league aims to provide knowledge and tools for safe and responsible technology use. This includes offering opportunities for students to engage in esports, develop digital skills, and foster a sense of community and belonging while maintaining a balance between virtual and real-world activities.

This year’s tournament features three stages, with students competing in the online game Valorant. The first stage consists of a group phase where all registered teams participate. The top 12 teams will then advance to the playoff stage scheduled for April. The competition will culminate in a two-day grand finale on May 10 and 11 at the Hall of Game gaming arena in Zagreb, one of the league’s partners.

The Telemach CUBE School Esport League goes beyond just a competition; it serves as a platform for learning and skill development in a format that resonates with students. The project aims to make esports accessible to all students, regardless of financial status or geographic location, emphasizing the importance of promoting competencies among new generations.

Esports in schools not only promotes inclusion and diversity but also plays a vital role in introducing students to the burgeoning gaming industry. The league provides students with opportunities to learn skills like strategic thinking, teamwork, communication, and problem-solving while fostering a spirit of sportsmanship and fair play.

Telemach, a long-time supporter of amateur sports in Croatia, has extended its support to the Telemach CUBE SEL competition, recognizing the value of combining sports with the development of digital skills. By providing a platform for students to explore esports and develop new skills, the league helps prepare them for future opportunities in the evolving gaming industry.
