As a journalist, I had the pleasure of speaking with my young niece about her love of science and her role models. My niece, Hannah Beth, is seven and three-quarters years old and dreams of becoming a kindergarten teacher or a psychologist when she grows up. Currently, in her science class, she is fascinated by magnets and how they work.
At Those Nerdy Girls, we are committed to inspiring girls and women across the country to pursue careers in science. Our all-woman team strives to be positive role models for aspiring young girls and women, encouraging them to follow their passions. Today, we share an interview with one of our very own Nerdy Girls – Hannah Beth.
When asked about her role models in science, Hannah immediately responds “my MOMMY!” Her mother is a psychiatrist and health equity researcher who has always encouraged her love of learning. Hannah’s mother has been an inspiration for her throughout her life and continues to be so today as she embarks on her journey towards becoming a scientist herself.
It’s heartwarming and inspiring to hear young girls like Hannah Beth share their love of science and their aspirations for the future. As Nerdy Girl Sara, I stand in solidarity with the celebration of women and girls in science today and every day. We are working hard to make sure that every girl has access to the resources she needs to pursue her passion for science.
