IARPA Seeking AI to Break New Ground in Science & Engineering

IARPA, the Intelligence Advanced Research Projects Activity, is currently seeking public input to evaluate the potential development of a generative artificial intelligence model. This AI model, once trained on relevant data, would be capable of producing innovative products based on prompts that advance human knowledge in science and engineering. IARPA is specifically interested in generative AI models that can produce outputs in math, algorithm or signal processing modalities such as equations, algorithms and waveforms.

It’s important to note that IARPA is not looking for generative AI models that perform calculations or execute algorithms or process signals. Instead, the agency is seeking AI models that can create new knowledge in MASP form, even if only making marginal advancements in complex sciences. IARPA is currently assessing the feasibility of such a model and even responses that generate known MASP products will be considered acceptable for the RFI.

Interested parties responding to the RFI are asked to address various issues including how training datasets can be obtained, how prompting mechanisms would function and how an AI model’s performance could be evaluated. Responses to the RFI are due by March 29th.

Federal leaders and industry experts will discuss the transformative power of artificial intelligence at The Potomac Officers Club’s 5th Annual Artificial Intelligence Summit on March 21st. Interested individuals can register for the event now to participate in these important conversations.
