Luis Robert Jr. sidelined: White Sox phenom placed on 10-day IL due to right hip flexor strain

Chicago White Sox star center fielder Luis Robert Jr. has been placed on the 10-day injured list with a right flexor strain, the team announced Saturday. He suffered the injury running the bases in Friday night’s game against the Kansas City Royals. Robert exited the game after hobbling to second base on a ninth-inning double. Pinch-runner Braden Shewmake replaced him in the game. Robert had been performing well with a .208 batting average and two home runs in his first six games of the season.

Unfortunately, Robert has a history of injuries, with this being his fifth season in the majors, and he has only played in over 100 games once in a regular-length season. In 2021, he missed three months due to a right hip flexor injury. The White Sox are also missing designated hitter Eloy Jiménez, who has been out with a left adductor strain. In response to Robert’s injury, infielder Lenyn Sosa has been called up to fill his roster spot. Kevin Pillar is expected to take over in center field for Robert, although the White Sox have other options at Triple-A Charlotte.

The White Sox are now 1-6 on the season following Friday’s loss to the Royals. They will continue their series with the Royals on Saturday as they try to navigate through injuries to key players like Robert and Jiménez.
