Memorial Health receives grant for cancer initiative, enhancing their ability to save lives | News, Sports, Jobs

The Memorial Health Foundation recently announced a grant of $3,000 to support the American Red Cross’ Blood Saves Lives Fighting Cancer initiative. Sharon Kesselring, executive director of the American Red Cross of the Ohio River Valley, expressed excitement for the partnership with the Health System. The grant was awarded by the Memorial Health Foundation’s board of trustees due to the important role the American Red Cross plays in patient care within the Health System and the region. The grant will aid in the collection and processing of blood products for those in need in the area.

The American Red Cross collects blood throughout the entire region, not just within the Memorial Health System. This blood is processed and made available for patients fighting cancer when they require it. Blood transfusions are essential in the cancer treatment process, providing relief from symptoms of chemotherapy treatments. Julie Dye and Jill Deming presented the grant on behalf of the foundation at Memorial Health System’s first blood drive of 2024.

The next Memorial Health Foundation grant cycle will open on July 1, and more information can be found online at mhsystem.org/Foundation.
