Mets Updates: Kodai Senga shows progress, Edwin Diaz’s next moves

During spring training, the latest Mets news includes updates on players like Senga, Diaz, and Fujinami. Senga received a platelet-rich plasma injection in his shoulder and is expected to start ramping up his activity soon. Manager Carlos Mendoza provided an update on Senga’s progress, noting that he is feeling good and progressing well in his shoulder exercises. Senga is expected to need about six weeks to ramp up once he’s cleared to throw, potentially returning to the Mets in May.

Diaz recently pitched in his first game action since his injury last March. In an intrasquad game, he showcased his fastball reaching between 96 and 98 mph and expressed readiness to compete. Diaz is looking forward to his next step of playing in a back field/minor league game before his Grapefruit League debut.

Fujinami returned to camp after a personal issue in Japan and is preparing for his first game action of the spring. With minor league options remaining, Fujinami could secure a bullpen spot for Opening Day with the Mets having flexibility to start him in the minors if needed. He has been throwing long bullpens and appears ready for his upcoming game on Thursday.
