Metso has received a significant order from Freeport-McMoRan to deliver a tankhouse material handling solution for their El Paso electrorefinery in Texas, US. The order is valued at over €10 million and is part of the 4Q23 orders received by the Minerals segment. Metso’s scope of delivery includes Outotec Anode Preparation and Cathode Stripping Machines, both based on proven designs that ensure high safety and long-term reliability. Both machines utilize modern robotic electrode handling to optimize layout and material handling efficiency in the existing refinery.

The solution combines Metso’s extensive experience in similar equipment with cutting-edge robot technology to meet the material handling requirements of the existing tankhouse. This collaboration is a significant project that demonstrates Freeport-McMoRan’s confidence in Metso’s technology to modernize their electrorefinery. It is expected to have a positive impact on the overall copper production process in the El Paso electrorefinery.
