Homeless encampments near Hollywood recording studio Sunset Sound negatively impacting business

Sunset Sound, a world-renowned recording studio located in Hollywood, fell victim to a burglary on Sunday. This latest incident is just one of many challenges the studio has been facing, which they attribute to the homeless community living near the building. The studio, known for producing iconic records and being in operation for 64 years, is now at risk due to the growing homeless problem.

According to Paul Camarata, president of Sunset Sound, the homeless issue has caused many recording artists to hesitate working with the studio. Incidents such as Taylor Swift being accosted outside the studio have had a negative impact on business. Additionally, the building has caught fire twice in the past year, resulting in significant property damage.

The situation has escalated so much that needles are now being left in plain sight outside the studio, and people are using public restrooms without permission. During Sunday’s burglary, thieves stole blank checks from the studio, leading to canceled accounts and further financial strain.

The homeless population in the area has grown significantly over time, with approximately 3,000 people currently residing there. Unfortunately, only 400 shelter beds are available to accommodate them. L.A City Councilman Hugo Soto-Martinez’s office stated that they are closely monitoring the situation and working with outreach teams; however, Soto-Martinez declined an on-camera interview when asked about it later that day.

Overall, these issues stemming from the homeless community have had a significant impact on Sunset Sound’s operations and could ultimately threaten its future existence if not addressed promptly and effectively by local authorities and stakeholders alike.
