New Nature-Focused Mental Health Program Introduced for Men in Wiltshire

Wiltshire Council is launching a new free wellbeing programme in collaboration with the Wiltshire Wildlife Trust to help men improve their mental health. The programme will offer nature-based physical activities such as hiking, woodwork, and bushcraft skills, along with wellbeing techniques including stress management and mindfulness.

Cllr Ian Blair-Pilling, cabinet member for public health, emphasized that the programme will provide men with the knowledge and practical tools they need to improve their mental wellbeing. He highlighted that participants will be able to engage in activities they enjoy while developing new skills and learning about the benefits of being outdoors. By having access to wellbeing techniques and advice, men who are currently struggling will be able to experience positive behavior change.

Damian Haasjes, director of education and wellbeing at Wiltshire Wildlife Trust, noted the “positive impact” that connecting with nature has on people’s mental health. He mentioned that the new outdoor men’s wellbeing programme will build on their existing work and offer a great opportunity for early support and intervention with men who are struggling with their mental health.

The wellbeing programme aims to provide men with the tools and knowledge necessary to improve their mental health and wellbeing. The collaboration between Wiltshire Council and Wiltshire Wildlife Trust offers activities that promote nature-based physical activities and wellbeing techniques. The programme begins in Salisbury and will later be available in Trowbridge and Chippenham. This initiative is expected to have a positive impact on men who are currently struggling with their mental health.
