Both teams will be heading to the National Science Bowl Finals in Washington, D.C. in April. The regional qualifiers took place at GE Research on March 2, with over a hundred local students participating in the science and math competition. The high school team from Niskayuna High School came in first place, while the team from Van Antwerp Middle School also emerged victorious.

The Niskayuna High School team is made up of students Mihir Kulkarni, Tarun Jacob, Daniel Yang, Aarush Iyengar, and Arjun Rangarajan. The first-place Van Antwerp team includes pupils Tejas Jacob, Sean Sung, Rohith Kulkarni, Daphne Pillai, and Ruchir Bollapragada. Both teams will be competing in the Energy Science Bowl finals in Washington D.C. starting April 25.

Joe Vinciquerra, Senior Director of GE Aerospace Research, expressed excitement about hosting the event and congratulated the winners. Volunteers from GE and the Naval Nuclear Laboratory helped judge the competition, where students were tested on various topics such as science, math, biology, chemistry, and physics. The National Science Bowl, founded in 1991 by the US Department of Energy, aims to promote education in math and science.

In addition to the main competition, a team from Maple Avenue Middle School won the model car challenge at the event. The Saratoga City School District squad participated in a model car race with vehicles designed by the students.
