Lakewood Church shooting officers to receive mental health support

In response to the Lakewood Church shooting, where a gunman opened fire in the church’s lobby and led to a shootout between the suspect and law enforcement, Houston Police Department and Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission officers have been provided with mental health care resources.

The Houston Police Officers’ Union has announced that their officer involved in the shooting, as well as responding officers, will have access to peer support teams from the department and union. They will also receive any necessary psychological treatment. Additionally, the union has reached out to the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission to offer mental health resources to their officer involved in the shooting.

It is essential to provide resources and support for law enforcement officers involved in traumatic and high-stress situations like this. The mental health and well-being of officers are just as important as their physical safety. Both officers involved in the Lakewood Church shooting have been placed on administrative leave while an investigation is ongoing. This step ensures that they receive the support and care they need during this time.
