Report: Passenger disappears after going overboard on European cruise and texting wife about feeling seasick

A 23-year-old passenger went missing from the MSC Euribia cruise ship on March 17 during a trip around Northern Europe. The man reportedly sent a message to his wife expressing that he felt seasick before disappearing. The cruise had departed from Southampton, England and was heading to various ports in Europe. MSC Cruises believes that the man intentionally went overboard.

The ship was scheduled to visit Hamburg, Germany, Rotterdam, Netherlands, Bruges, Belgium, and Le Havre, France. Upon returning to Southampton, police boarded the vessel to investigate the incident. The cruise line expressed deep sadness over the situation and extended condolences to the family, refraining from sharing additional details out of respect for their privacy.

The missing passenger was identified as Liam Jones, a 23-year-old student from Dundee, Scotland who was studying social work. Jones’ wife, Sophia Mcphee, stated that she received little information about the incident and shared that her husband had mentioned feeling seasick in his final text message to her. Mcphee expressed devastation over the situation, realizing she may never see him again.
