Apple Podcasts introduces automatic transcription feature

Apple has recently added a new feature to its podcast service, transcripts, which improves accessibility and navigation through podcast content. This feature is available in English, French, Spanish, and German and is part of the iOS 17.4 and iPadOS 17.4 update.

The transcripts provide the text of what is said in each episode, allowing users to read along while listening. This expanded feature enables users to search for keywords, skip to specific points, or continue playing episodes seamlessly. In addition to easing podcast consumption, transcripts serve as an accessibility tool for users who are deaf or hard of hearing. They can follow podcasts without playing the audio, and visually impaired users can adjust font size and color contrast for easier reading. Transcripts also support language learning by enabling users to follow podcasts in a foreign language.

It’s worth noting that the transcripts do not provide translations between languages and are automatically generated shortly after each episode is published. However, this update makes the podcast listening experience more inclusive and engaging for a wider range of users.
