Siemens acquires drive technology division from ebm-papst

Siemens and ebm-papst have announced that Siemens plans to acquire ebm-papst’s industrial drive technology division, as part of Siemens’ strategy to expand its factory automation business. The division, which has 650 employees, is being sold by ebm-papst as they aim to focus on air and heating technology. ebm-papst’s CEO Klaus Geissdoerfer stated that the acquisition is a perfect fit for Siemens as it fills a gap in their product portfolio.

Geissdoerfer also mentioned that ebm-papst lacked a global sales structure, an area where Siemens excels. The two companies believe that the acquisition will help them tap into new business opportunities, especially in the growing market for intelligent, battery-powered drive solutions in intralogistics and mobile robot solutions. The purchase price of the transaction has not been disclosed, and the deal is expected to close by mid-2025.

Industrial drive technology currently represents less than 10% of ebm-papst’s total revenue of 2.54 billion euros. However, Geissdoerfer confirmed that the division is profitable. Cedrik Neike, the Siemens executive board member responsible for digital industries, expressed optimism about the acquisition and the potential it holds for both companies in terms of expanding their market reach and customer base.
