Siemens to acquire drive technology division from ebm-papst firm, reports The Mighty 790 KFGO

Siemens has announced its plans to acquire ebm-papst’s industrial drive technology division in order to expand its factory automation business, as confirmed by both companies on Thursday. ebm-papst, a German company known for manufacturing electric motors and high-tech fans, has decided to focus on air and heating technology, leading to the sale of the division with 650 employees.

The CEO of ebm-papst, Klaus Geissdoerfer, stated that the acquisition aligns well with Siemens’ product portfolio and fills a gap in their offerings. He mentioned that ebm-papst lacked a global sales structure, which is a strength of Siemens. The two companies have decided not to disclose the purchase price, with the transaction expected to be finalized by mid-2025.

Industrial drive technology currently represents less than 10% of ebm-papst’s total turnover of 2.54 billion euros but is considered profitable, according to Geissdoerfer. Siemens’ Cedrik Neike, the executive board member responsible for digital industries, sees the acquisition as an opportunity to explore new business and customer potential in the growing market for intelligent, battery-powered drive solutions in intralogistics and mobile robot solutions.

With this strategic acquisition, Siemens aims to strengthen its position in the factory automation sector and enhance its offerings in industrial drive technology for future growth and expansion. The partnership between Siemens and ebm-papst is expected to bring mutual benefits and drive innovation in the rapidly evolving industry.
