On Tuesday, the Pittsburgh Steelers are set to sign experienced linebacker Blake Martinez from the Carolina Panthers’ practice squad. This comes just a day after they added Myles Jack to their own practice squad on Monday. The signing of Martinez is expected to bolster the Steelers’ roster further as they continue to strengthen their linebacker corps.
Before retiring from football in November 2022, Martinez had previously played for the Raiders and Giants, appearing in a total of seven games over two seasons. However, he retired early in order to focus on his profitable Pokemon trading card business. However, he was later banned from selling cards on a major online marketplace, leading him to return to football with the Panthers earlier this month.
Martinez has had an impressive career thus far, with 77 games played for the Packers and Giants over the previous five seasons. He has amassed a total of 706 tackles, 13 sacks, four interceptions, four forced fumbles, and three fumble recoveries throughout his career. These signings by the Steelers demonstrate their commitment to strengthening their linebacker corps with experienced players.
