Telegram challenges WhatsApp with new features designed for businesses

Businesses can now use Telegram as a communication option for customers by converting their accounts into business accounts. This allows them to display their hours of operation and pin their location on a map, making it easier for customers to find and contact them. They can also customize their start page and display information about their products and services on empty chats.

Telegram Business accounts can save preset messages to respond to multiple inquiries quickly, as well as set up greeting and away messages to automatically send to customers. Businesses can also use a Telegram Bot to chat with customers, although some may prefer speaking with a human customer service representative. These features are free for those with a Telegram Premium account, which costs $5 a month.

In addition to these business-focused features, Telegram is sharing 50% of ad revenue with channel owners who have at least 1,000 subscribers. Company founder Pavel Durov has indicated that Telegram is financially stable and expects to be profitable next year. They are also exploring the possibility of an initial public offering in the future.
