Marielle Thompson of B.C. Clinches Third Consecutive World Cup Ski Cross Gold

On Sunday, Marielle Thompson of Canada won her third consecutive World Cup women’s ski cross gold medal in Georgia. The Whistler, B.C. native had a successful weekend at the event and now has four wins in five races. Thompson, who is the reigning Olympic silver medallist, also leads the season standings.

Thompson emphasized the importance of skiing cleanly and making minor adjustments in order to maintain speed. In her 132nd World Cup start, she won all her heats and earned her 65th World Cup podium and 29th career victory. She focused on being quick and powerful out of the gate at the start of the race, which was particularly crucial.

France’s Marielle Berger Sabbatel and Switzerland’s Talina Gantenbein finished with silver and bronze medals, respectively. India Sherret of Cranbrook, B.C. finished fourth in the final.

Overall, it was a successful weekend for Canadian skiers, with Thompson leading the way with her impressive performance.
