Two students from Idaho chosen to attend science camp with STEAM focus

Two high school seniors from Idaho, Anna Grace Aiello and Geneva McClory, have been selected to participate in the National Youth Science Camp in West Virginia this summer. The camp will take place from June 29 to July 20 in the Monongahela National Forest. Both students are from different high schools, Xavier Charter School in Twin Falls and Moscow High School, respectively.

They will join students from across the country in a scientific cohort focused on science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics (STEAM). Together, they will work with professionals in these fields to enhance their learning experiences. The Idaho Department of Education coordinator, Andrea Baerwald, expressed her excitement for the students, emphasizing their commitment to hands-on science education.

The selection process for this camp is highly competitive, with two students chosen from each state based on their academic performance, achievements in the STEAM program areas, and their aspirations to pursue higher education and careers in STEAM-related industries. Both Aiello and McClory were thrilled to have been chosen for the opportunity.

McClory shared her excitement for meeting other science enthusiasts and exploring STEAM opportunities in West Virginia. Aiello expressed her eagerness to delve deeper into her interests alongside peers who share her curiosity. The program has been running since 1963 and also includes visits to the nation’s capital, where students will meet with congressional members, tour museums, and attend panel discussions at the American Association for the Advancement of Science.
