Valdosta State University to host Science Saturday

Valdosta State University will be hosting Science Saturday: Tree of Life at the Hugh C. Bailey Science Center. The event, presented by the College of Science and Mathematics and the Department of Biology, will take place from 9 a.m. to noon on April 13.

Science Saturday: Tree of Life is an exciting and educational opportunity for the community to learn more about the scientific study of life. Attendees of all ages can participate in activities such as learning about different animals, plant pigment chromatography, and more. There will be a species scavenger hunt, interactions with betta fish, and discussions on whether plants feel stress.

Supported by VSU’s STEM Initiative, Science Saturday is part of an ongoing effort to inspire the next generation to explore science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Faculty in the College of Science and Mathematics believe that the nation’s economic future is tied to student success in these fields.

The event is free and open to the public, with parking available in various lots around Main Campus. The most convenient parking lots are located along Georgia Avenue between Oak Street and Patterson Street, and no VSU parking permit is needed for this event. After Science Saturday: Tree of Life, activities will resume in the fall.

Educators at VSU and throughout the country are dedicated to enhancing STEM education at all levels and engaging the public in these subjects. Science Saturday is just one way that VSU is working to inspire interest in STEM fields and encourage learning in these areas.
