In November 2023, Wärtsilä, a technology company, announced that it will be delivering its simulator technology to the new maritime training center in Kotka. The order was placed by the Southeastern Finland University of Applied Sciences (Xamk) and the Kotkan-Hamina region’s educational community association (Ekami). The equipment is expected to be delivered in August 2024.

The new maritime training center in Kotka will provide students with hands-on experience in navigating ships and operating marine equipment through simulation technology provided by Wärtsilä. This is a significant investment for Xamk as they have been using Wärtsilä’s training simulator for over 20 years and this new order further solidifies their partnership. It also demonstrates the trust and satisfaction that Xamk has in Wärtsilä’s technology.

Wärtsilä has been providing simulation solutions for various industries such as aviation, shipping, and defense for over 50 years. Their simulators are designed to replicate real-life scenarios and provide trainees with the skills they need to operate complex machinery safely and efficiently. This technology is essential for the safety of crew members on board ships and other watercraft.

The delivery of Wärtsilä’s simulator technology to the new maritime training center in Kotka is an exciting development for both Xamk and the marine industry as a whole. It will undoubtedly help students develop the skills they need to succeed in their careers and contribute to the safety of our oceans.
